Social Platforms to Include in Your 2021 Marketing Strategy

As we kick off the new year, businesses are back into planning mode refining their marketing and communication strategy for 2021. With a breadth of social media platforms readily available, businesses need to decide which platforms are worth building into their marketing strategy?

Recent data collected by leading social media management platform Hootsuite Digital 2021 Report, shows that traditional social media platforms will continue to dominate in 2021.

While platforms such as Snapchat and TikTok have struggled with sustained user growth and user defections, both far away from the golden milestone of one billion users, platforms such as Instagram, Facebook and YouTube still consistently show user growth signs and adoption.

Importantly when looking at the demographics using various platforms, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube all perform well against the broadest age range from 15 years to 45 years.

That’s not to say other social media platforms should be ignored. Some platforms are well suited for industries targeting specific demographics, for example, LinkedIn for corporate or Pinterest for weddings. But from a broader business perspective and widest audience reach, YouTube, Instagram and Facebook will continue to lead the charge in 2021.

Unsurprisingly social platforms also have significant audience overlaps. From a marketing perspective, this is good news as it means brands do not need to be active on every platform. A strong presence on just one or two of the larger platforms will allow you to reach most social media
users.

Another important thing to note for 2021, while YouTube does have a strong audience reach, there is a higher barrier to entry, with lengthy quality video content being costly to produce. While Instagram
and Facebook support video content and video content is projected to grow in 2021; the length and production quality of videos on these platforms are more accessible than YouTube, where audiences
have a higher production expectation.

The ROI of a well-planned Facebook and Instagram strategy makes these two platforms critical to marketing success in 2021.
